My first decision is to get a head unit or not. The stereo shop I went to gave me a quote for like $450 just to allow me to change my headunit (Faceplate, wiring, adapters) then I would have to buy a headunit & pay for install....

I really dont care about the looks so if anything I was thinking about keeping my factory headunit and just putting the money into nice speakers and amp. Is there a major reason I shouldnt do this? My stock sys has USB, aux, etc. etc. so im not worried bout that part either.

Besides that im pretty sure I want to go with nice components and tweaters then 2x SA 10 D2 with at least a 1000rms mono.

I will be doing the Big 3 upgrade and most likely going with an aftermarket alt. My stock alt is 120 amp but thats not gonna cut it especially with my tiny battery.

Also going to look into dynomat, etc. to minimize the rattles. Im sure im forgetting some shit but just wanted to get this started so I can get some ideas going.

Any input on brands, build ideas, etc. please chime in!

does your cars current stuff have the sync feature?

$450 for install gear seems super high compared to what i'm looking at on websites for your car.

honestly if you want to ignore the chimes and crap you can just ignore the wiring harness and run your own power and ground wires pretty simply for like $10 in wire.

Ya it has Sync. I never use it but I don't want to get rid of it in case I sell the car one day.

Im ok with keeping the stock headunit if I can do everything I want with it. As long as the sound quality is good and there isn't any issues wiring the speakers and amp im cool.

sometimes it works out fine and sometimes it doesn't. you'll have to look into your specific factory head unit and see if its going to have any issues if you keep it. for example some of them have built in features to keep people from blowing the speakers which will be a problem for you since it essentially turns the bass setting down the higher the volume goes up.

The Radio Replacement Kit isnt needed I bypassed it in my Trailblazer and you can put it right back to normal when you sell your car if not you're looking at $120 for the Radio Replacement kit and another $65-$100 for a shop to install it. Also if you want to keep steering wheel control you can with a $100 kit but I doubt you'll be able to put that in yourself as well upto you I guess whatever you do dont spend $1200 on a system and run the factory headunit thats pointless.

Think im about to buy 2x SA10D4's and a SAZ 1200 amp if the guy gives me a good enough deal..

Prolly have my local audio shop build me a custom ported box. If at all possible I would like 2 separate boxes so I have some more room in the trunk. I think it calls for 1ft+ per sub so not sure how thats gonna work.

how much is a local shop going to charger you? if its over $200 id suggest going to caraudio.com and finding prorabbit and or mylows10 for custom box building.. they make boxes for alot of people on that site and will give you a exact $$ amount for building it and shipping charges. they are very reputable and are authorized dealers of car audio, and their boxes are top of the line so no worry about gettin a pos box made.

This local shop came reccommended and they quoted me $150 for a ported box so I will probably go with them.

Trying to decide on speakers... I dont want to hack my panels to run 6.5in rounds so I think im just going to go with polk audio or JL 5x7s and be done with it since they are a direct bolt in for stock 6x8s.

Decided to go with Focal Polyglass 6.5in Coaxials with an adapter kit for the 6x8 factory slot. Going with Skar 80.4 amp for those. Getting 2x SA10D4s with Skar 1000watt amp @ 1ohm. I am also getting an XS power D925 battery to help out some along with the Big 3 upgrade.

I cant seem to find a bolt in upgrade for my 120amp alt so its gonna be rough for a bit haha


Still gotta figure out my headunit situation
