I currently have a 12 inch sub wired to 2 ohms and its nice... but i kinda want an 8in instead of the 12 because i listen to alot of punchy metal not so much rap... :S

this is a more complicated subject that requires more consideration than just subwoofer size.

whoever gave you the idea an 8 inch sub will handle metal better than a 12 inch sub is giving you bad information.

the only general thing you can say about small vs large with different types of music is their frequency response since most larger subs can go low to mid 20hz and most smaller subs start at 30+hz. this isn't be any means true for every large/small sub its just common.

a more important factor will be your boxes internal volume and type along with your amps tuning.

the main reason you see people listening to rap using larger subs is because they want that ability to go below 30hz that a 15/18+ generally have along with more surface area for more decibels.

thats a 4ohm dvc so my amp would put 500rms to it...

what im saying is you are trying to find a result without actually considering it at all.

saying an 8 inch sub will perform better for metal than a 12 inch sub is wrong.

the reason you go bigger is for lower frequency response and more surface area to make it a bit louder.

going smaller only really helps if you don't have much room for a sub.

if your current setup isn't performing correctly its not because its a 12 inch sub but rather a mix of the amp/sub/box being wrong or shitty.

also are you sure the amp is tuned correctly? if you aren't sure it'd be a good idea to do some research and learn the basics of amp tuning.

yeah i think my gain is set a tad low, just weary of a clipped signal.... because of my last sub
and yeah current set up nothing... to brag about i know its not correct
its a sub supposed to be vented but its in a 2cu sealed box

whats the subs model number? subs can be in either type of box as long as the box is correctly sized for the sub.
