I hope you're kidding... From my experience Pioneers last a lot longer than Kenwood and are twice as easy to use and set-up and usually have more options for the price. Kenwood is great too but to say Pioneer is OK compared to Kenwood is completely untrue imo Kenwood is just ok and Pioneer is great... My friends 6 month old Kenwood just stopped turning on while my cheaper Pioneer has lasted almost 3 years.

Depends if you plan to run multiple amplifiers. get something with 3 4v+ preoutputs and with filters (hpf is a must, lpf is optional.) and a good 5+ band EQ never hurts. Probably going to run you between $150-200 depending on brand.
Basically 4vpreout allows more power at less volume for your subwoofers/speakers and adds clarity you need 3 outputs for a 4 channel + mono block and the filters will help lessen distortion from trying to play out of frequency ranges. The EQ band allows for seperate tuning for Lows/Mids/Highs so you can even the levels a bit better.

Also one with some type of Source Level Adjustment or SLA so you can adjust the levels between IPOD/CD etc.

I've had Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, JVC, and Clarion.

My Kenwood's have outperformed everything else and lasted longer as well.

Then it's luck of the draw and user preference but Pioneers are more user-friendly and have better options for the price 90% of the time and imo are better built, that's fact. Except the imo part ofc

imo alpine is better than all of the above but you need to spend $200 to get decent headunits from them.

+1 on the pioneers
you can get into a dvd bluetooth double din with 4v rca outs for 300$
most of the newer ones will run apps from your phone as well
