Recently bought a kenwood W1012 12" subwoofer and wired it myself in my car. It's in a sealed 1cuft enclosure. I have some spare time and I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to make a ported box which meets the designer specs. Will I notice much of a difference in sound quality/bass/loudness?
I havent got much experience in car audio so hoping someone could let me know.

sweet, does the thickness of the material used make much of a difference? I have 6mm thick wood available to me, if i wanted 21mm i'd have to buy it.

6mm is way to thin.

5/8 inch is the minimum and 3/4 inch is standard.

and you use Medium density fiberboard(MDF) not just wood.

alright does the tube for the port have to be any particular material or thickness?

that design accounts for all of that. its built out of the same material as the rest of the box.

wait, so you're saying I need to find a pipe made of mdf?

do a vent/slot not a tube. like this.

ok well the specs give me a length and a diameter for a tube, how would I convert that to the equivalent dimensions for a vent?

it looks like it gives you a rectangle vent with a circle opening. where does it say the internal structure is round?
