LONDON (AP)
Serbian tennis player David Savic has become the second player to receive a life ban for attempting to fix matches.

The Tennis Integrity Unit says the 659th-ranked Savic was also fined $100,000 after being found guilty of three violations of the sport's international anti-corruption program. The ban begins immediately.

In May, Austrian player Daniel Koellerer was the first player to be banned for life over match-fixing.

The 26-year-old Savic was found guilty of the same three violations of the sport's anti-corruption rules as Koellerer, including ''contriving or attempting to contrive the outcome of an event.''

Savic reached a career best 363rd in the rankings in 2009 and never played above the challenger circuit.

never even thought of this happening in tennis, anyone know anthing about this?

sure, happens all the time, especially in the lower rankings (like this guy who was #363 at best) since they dont earn enough money unless they're top 100-150, so the only thing they can do is by betting money on their own losses etc (obviously they are very discrete about it hence only 2 bans)

so what exactly happens? the guy makes huge bets that his opponent would win? so in essence he would purposely play poorly to get the desired results?

pretty much this, except that they usually got ppl betting for them who they're not officially aquainted with, otherwise it'd be too obvious, but even with help from unknown friends/contacts, some ppl still get caught.
