i'm 5' 8" and a friend i play with is almost 6'6"
sometimes he gets the ball to bounce up wickedly and i don't have much of a counter. it just ends up lobbing up in the air and he can go through for a winner or really put me in an awkward position. any advice for short guys?

I just take a step into the court and take it early when the bounce is still on the way up.
I'm not short though but I suppose that's what I'd try to do.

no, it's when he puts a shitload of topspin on the ball. it's easy to read when he does it however the bounce is still variable. the upper range of that variable bounce is what i'm talking about.

so its high arching and bounces high? then you can hit it as it comes up closer to where it bounces or you can hit it on its way back down
if he does that and it lands far from baseline i would rush up to it and hit it on the run and move to the net

take the ball on the rise, since ur short work on ur court coverage and try and use the angles to run ur oppentent out of the match.
