better player definitely won the first set, even though he dipped hard to lose serve. i feel like federer needs the 2nd set badly though

really pathetic 3rd set

fed comes out playing like trash, loses the first 7 points but survives 0-40. both playing up and down for awhile, fed breaks to 4-3 and plays another terrible game (now has lost 3 of 4 service games serving with a lead). as the set wears on fed continues to play like garbage and saves a set point at 5-6, looks to be coming out of it.. and then just sucks it up some more in the tiebreaker.

suddenly down 6-1 in the breaker he goes back to playing like a god, gets to 6-5, and just can't do anything in the next point (credit to nadal, although nadal played badly for most of the set and just watched fed self-destruct)

probably the worst set between the 2 i can remember seeing, and i watched that french final and miami and london..

4th set summary - fed gets himself in trouble repeatedly and saves a ton of bps, finally at 4-4 he can't quite dig himself out.

nadal faces 2 bps serving for the match and on one federer had the point basically won and just made a terrible decision when nadal got back into it, hitting a slice overhead instead of resetting for a forehand. nadal gets it on his 2nd mp. 4th set definitely much higher quality than the 3rd.

thoughts overall on the match.. well it was pretty bizarre at times, although not entirely unsurprising. federer largely abandoned attacking the nadal bh for long stretches, and i just can't understand why because it was effective. approaching to the nadal forehand was a debacle that he seemed intent on reliving over and over, and his own forehand deserted him at times mostly in the 3rd set. some terrible approach shots too. as for nadal, he played well towards the end of the 1st set and most of the 2nd, and at times in the 4th (although he got passive in many of the big moments) but apart from that was unspectacular and mostly relied on federer self-destructing, as the match was on feds racquet, as usual..

i don't really see how this win will help nadal in the final, assuming its against djokovic, but also even if murray comes through. nadals backhand really isn't that improved, he doesn't have the uso 2010 serve, and he's still not full of confidence on the big points. his forehand is in great form though, and his movement looks as good as ever.

I agree it hasn't been their best, but its fight of nerves and mental. Both needs win to proove themselves a bit after are they knock down, we could see tennis on a moments, still high quality imo, but not superb!!!

Deserved. Rafa stood up, after Federer furious start, and Roger didnt find a response. Even 1st tie break Roger had lucks with lines(4 times), if can be called luck when these people play, dunno what to say anymore, just enjoyed.......

what a match and what an inspired effort from both. murray showed a lot out there and i think he'll be alright moving forward and possibly winning a slam this year, but djokovic is just a warrior and did a great job navigating the ebbs and flows of the match. the physicality and length will probably shorten his odds sunday against nadal, even with the day off... but i still like his chances

would go into more analysis/detail but i gotta sleep cuz work in a few hours ;(
