That quote is quite a bit over the top as the "physical/mental challenge" is incomparable, especially to tennis where the game is 80%+ mental and physical wise, it is one of the most physically difficult sports in the world today since you don't get long breaks unlike in team sports and you're out there running around for 2 hours oftentimes.
But seriously, individual sports affect the mind so differently. It is only you out there, no one to depend on your outcome except your opponent. I have played on several varsity fútbol and basketball teams in high school so I know how it feels winning on a team. However, when you win a tennis tournament, the feeling is absolutely insane. All the glory for just yourself.
Glory is only a figment or sensation of our success. There's no barometer to measure it.
So for me to say, more glory is reached because of competing vs 10 other guys, as opposed to 1, is not out of the question.
I understand when you win an individual sport like tennis, you ( and maybe your coach/family/nation etc ) are the only ones receiving glory.
But does that glory hold more volume than when there's 10 other competitors attempting to encompass perfect cohesiveness? It's all debatable.
And it's not like tennis stands alone in your argument. I wouldn't be surprised if MMArtists feel more glory when winning ( not necessarily the new age MMA, but the grand prix and old school. )
