Right..

If you consistantly serve 190 why aren't you a pro yet

I do not consistantly serve 190 :) I meant that my fastest 1st serve is around 185-190, and my first serve overall is more consistant (I don't miss it as much) but the speed varies more depending on the day. If you ask Roddick how fast he can serve he'd prob reply 250km/h (or w/e his record is) but that doesn't mean that he can serve that consistantly.

Oh, and some of the players I train with do serve around 190 consistantly, and I can tell you that it's far from enough to become a pro, in case you didn't know.

Well I tested mine like 2 years ago when I was 16 years old, then I served at ~180 km/h with my first serve (dunno 2nd), now I guess it's 185-190 km/h so speed hasn't improved a lot but my placement and consistency has. Also my second serve is a lot better now than it was 2 years ago.

Unclear from this sentence that it was your best serve. 'its at 185-190' looks like an average.

A serve of 190 km/h is good enough to be a pro if you can do it quite consistantly. Only a few players hit 200 + regularly.

Yeah I guess it could be unclear, that's why I cleared it out in my previous post :) sorry for the misunderstanding.

And no it really depends on the rest of your game. Obviously if you serve 190 km/h consistantly it CAN be enough to become a pro IF your gameplay is good enough. Just by having a 190 km/h serve doesn't make you a pro, of course you may still be a great tennis player but being pro is a huge step from there.

Like I said, a couple of the guys I train with serves at around 185-190 consistantly in a match. They are highly ranked (around 10, few even better, some a bit worse) in the country in their ages, but they'd never even qualify to an ATP tournament even if they tried.

It's unclear what you mean with "a few players hit 200+ regularly". I'm pretty sure any pro can serve harder than 200 km/h and have an average speed on their 1st service at 190 km/h, and for those who can't, they must have an amazing baseline gameplay.

Oh, and having ATP points isn't enough in my eyes to be "a pro". If you earn enough money to make a living by playing tennis competitively, then you're a pro imo.

Of course not. But I assumed someone with a serve that strong has an equally developed game. Well most players have their first serve usually under 200 km/h except for the really tall players and a couple of others.

I'd love to be a professional player :)

I should not have given up on that a couple of years ago then though. Are you still aiming for a career in tennis? :O

Look at Karlovic, huuuuge serve, yet his game is far from as developed as his serve, hence it's his main weapon. Obviously his gameplay is still good enough to be a pro. But remember there are also Karlovic's in junior tennis with serves good enough as a "normal pro" but lacking in everything else ^^

Also you gotta remember, when I say that my hardest serve is around 185-190 then I'm just going all out flat obviously. I'm doing anything to reach the highest number possible on that stupid machine, yet if you compare my 185 km/h serve with Federers 185 km/h serve there's a huuuuuge difference. His placement is 100x better, his spin/kick is 100x better etc. So speed isn't everything (unless you serve 250 km/h :D ) So yeah even if I could use my best serve I ever did, I'd probably get owned by any pro 'cause I'd be giving up all of my placement and spin just for speed.

Nah I quit aiming for a career when I was like 17 (I'm 19 in 3 months). My goal was always to become a pro. I mean if you play full-time tennis and doesn't have that goal, then why the hell even bother? :P
And I became good, but not that good, and when I realized that I wasn't good enough to become a pro, I just couldn't keep my motivation up anymore. I still play 4 days a week, morning and evening, because it's part of my school schedule (sports class), so it's fewer hours now (cause I don't play at all in the weekends) and I don't even have 90%+ attendance, prob closer to 75-80% 'cause I tend to slack some days :P and I almost never play tournaments anymore, only like 3-4 a year and some series matches for the club you know.

You honestly think I'm e-stating?

My serve is pretty much the only part of my game. And it's huge.

serve is the weakest part of my game, and its a real fucking shame considering im ambidextrous and relatively tall

haven't had it clocked, but people have said i'm around 110-115 lefty (maybe on a good day i can get it around 120), so i'm guessing about 100-105 righty

doesn't really matter though since i'm usually at around 45%
