i’m using overwolf client overlay and trying to figure out this season of tft. i played in beta but there have been many changes since then.

i’ve had good luck going duelist build, but when i try to switch it up (say, switching to spirit shades) i get completely lost and can’t make clear decisions.

are there better resources to get a general understanding of TFT as it exists right now? i want to be flexible between comps but when i try to freestyle i still don’t get first place (even with 6-7 synergies).

i understand placing 4th and higher is a win but i want to consistently get first and second place before i move to ranked.

1) Top4 is win and that's it. Playing consistently for top2 is a mistake because it means you're ignoring the game mechanics in order to push a top2 (that's the typical playstyle of 1-8-1-8-1-8 players)
2) Normals mean nothing, people feel free to do stuff that they aren't generally brave enough to repeat in ranked. A top1 in normal can be a top8 in ranked played the same way, as well as a top4 in normal can be a top1 in ranked cause you lost due to random lucky tryharders in normal
3) Overlays and public stuff tell you what's the best setup, they don't give you insights on how the game should be played
4) The best way to learn the game is to play a lot to get a general understanding and then refining your knowledge by massive challenger VODs watching or individual coaching
5) You're mixing in the same discussion things like "good comps" and "changing comps during the game". One is a setup in which mechanics are not required, the second one is the key of playing the game well

In EUW I'd suggest DarkHydra, Salvyyy, De1sik.
In NA I won't look too much, too many random fancy players (just note everyone feels free to make predictions on meta there but 99% of times they're wrong)

is there a huge difference in NA to EU?

i imagine i can still get to plat elo if i play like top EU players, even if I'm not as smart?

this is my hardest thing. i get overwhelmed thinking about what to do. if i don't feel strong about a game, usually i:

1. check carousel
2. pick team from overwolf that has items/champs i got from carousel
3. freak out if i reroll spam and cant get what i need.
4. leave at krugs

Challengers don't have a strategy, they have a good playstyle.

A forced comp is generally worse than a random comp with well-suited items and good rolls.

You can spot what you call "strategies" on the internet (for example mobalytics.com), it's full of meta guides per single patch, but they don't teach you how to play the game.

It's like pretending to understand how to build houses by looking at pictures of skyscreepers instead of learning how to use bricks.

ahh i get it. so im thinking if i just play more and focus i can learn how to be flexible and get good instead of relying on pre-made comps
