My one-trick is literally 25% better than anything else I play so yes.

The key to one-tricking is NOT mastering one champ, even though thats good also. Its a TRICK you can do with said champ. My one-trick is a long ranged mage with which the trick is never die because you never enter the fight (!) even in team-fights, delete waves when enemy is pushing, CC and ultimate shenanigans, poke shenanigans all due to range I cant reveal said champ. Also baiting the enemy, then capturing them in an entanglement. Take a guess.

Annie trick is gank another lane at lvl 6 (disappear in a clever manner and dont reveal which lane you are headed to), drop all spells on target. In team fights dont be at the front-line, go in and out in a sophisticated way. Building her semi-tank may also ameloirate the unfavorable soloqueue situation [RoA is a must-have, armor/hp work in synergy but don't forget rabadons]. Special runes can also be used. Annie is good no matter what they say. Her AP ratios are very high and cooldowns very low. Also tibbers for sieging turrets and drawing focus and enabling good posititoning for your team.
Katarina is probably similar to zed, kill under turret and get away. Ambush and counter-gank. Work alone through midgame and past.

One-trick is a way of handling an assumed 1v9 situation for me. That enables you to climb under the most duressing odds. Its about that one advantage that enables you to perform a stunt noone else can and then building and playing her to use it.

Is it viable? Well just about everyone in high elo one tricking and this advice is probably most common.
Every super high elo will recommend go with Annie mid. Not many take this advice cause ego too high. So they instead pick some high skill Champ and proceed to feed for the next 200-300 games. If they manage to make it this far then the real climb begins. Imo getting good at the game is more rewarding then being a master of perfect Champ micro. You begin to see and focus on what's important. Lower rank and NA players especially are addicted to aram play style yet objectives are nearly always>
