Why not just go farm for the eggs? If you really don't want to, give it time. I for one am farming the lucky eggs soon as I get there.

Also, bluejuice, you do get EV's from trainer battles.
Just tested it to make sure. Used a clean pokemon, fought a trainer, checked EV's and it gained 2 points.

to do this, pull your pokemon out, then surf, then land on the grass but don't move, it should make your pokemon surf
