I rarely play ranked now mostly arams. The game is toxic af, matchmaking in particular.

On one end you get super competitive players who are trying to win every game and on the other you get casual maple story plebs who think they are cool by running it down.
For example Lets imagine there is a basketball game and Riot decides to pick out from the crowd of several million a few random strangers and force them to play as a team. And a casual duo decide to run it down because they don't really care about winning. The rest of the team are now stuck with these players and have to be significantly better then the opposite team that it doesn't matter even if they exist or not. If you get outplayed you deserve to lose 100% but to bear a loss because of an outside influence is suffering.

You can attribute those team mates as a statistical luck factor but its much harder to blame dice or a coin then a player who is clearly bad

I play a shittier game with my friends (HOTS) and it also sucks.

The barrier to entry is too high for LoL at this point...too many heroes, too much to keep track of...

There is no way they are gaining a lot of new players and as the older ones leave, the game is slowly dying.

IMO anyways.

They definitely need something new

pretty much. but the slowly thing is very very slow.

But my view: My workplace set up our "gaming room" during covid to a make shift tournament 5v5 room ( primarily league ). Problem is there's no sound barrier and we're better off just playing at home or our office.

But our age range of league players is still quite young. its definitely a hobby that's staying.

Now want to watch a legend in gaming actually die? Go see what's up with WoW and blizzard. That's what I'd call dying

Apart from the fact that LCS has terrible scheduling for European people if we want to watch any games at all, I'd say that having to fill quotas with caster/analyst choices made the quality of casting and analysis kinda go to shit and then there's the:

I get this is normal for northen american people but it really gets annoying for us...
