yea i'd say elementalists
they are pretty much the easiest way to go from losing to almost guaranteeing at least 4th place as long as the other teams aren't already insane. It can basically instantly stabilize your team, even with all 3 of em being level 1. And then ofc units like sej/cho/gnar/yasuo can help almost any team really well. gnar is the least likely to perform out of those at 1 star, but obviously still a good unit overall.
gunslingers are interesting too because they easily go into pirates, but can also make use of some of the lesser used/wanted items. such as disarm on trist/graves/lucian to counter auto attackers like rangers + assassins or the silence item which would be good vs pretty much anything, or even red buff to prevent healing and do a bit of damage to every unit they hit in range of them. Sure they will also end up wanting alot of items like any team would, but they really can make great use of every item. Mf would make the best use of the rods + tears later on, if you didn't already find uses for em.
imperials can also still do a ton of damage with no damage items. gonna need swain for 4x but the risk of not getting him isn't that high if you level to 8 and have a bit of money to roll. It can be combined with elementalists too with a cho/sej/yasuo quite easily. If you go with yasuo you could even do something like turning brand into a blademaster and he will gain mana faster when that procs and your yasuo + draven will do more damage too.
here's an example of gunslingers.

It's still using some "high end" items, but also disarm paid off alot and so did red buff + zeke's. The ludens was only made cause I had a tear + rod sitting around and the game seemed like it could end before the next item. MF makes great use of mana items cause she is all about her ult.
you can also see how versatile elementalists are there too. He went 3x assassin + 4x ninja + 3x elementalists and it was a very threatening team.
graves is also definitely the best hydra user in the game. the other gunslingers seem like they should be able to make at least decent use out of it, but it's a somewhat risky item in general. the splash doesn't seem to always damage everything it should and well it doesn't add any damage to the initial auto.
also something to keep in mind.. pirates can make a lot of money and you could just use that money for levels and switch comps. Here I found a bunch of gunslinger stuff, but not really the stuff to get out of pirates/expand the team into other areas, didn't matter though, 3 damage threats + cc was good enough.
