I still prefer smite on summoners, it helps ALOT in jungling, its faster than ignite, you cant say it isnt...
when your 1v2 lane has to go back and you cover the lane, you are a single target champ, it helps kill creeps faster, IE the cannon tank creep = less time they would possibly have on the tower
I have actually stolen baron twice (only twice out of like 75+games..but still) by having a teemo or someone ward it, and i smite from the back...

smite makes 3-4 of them rush ur golemn @ lvl 1, so i hit their golemn and they lose lane time...rather than just 2 going to stop me from golemning otherwise...

ignite will prolly net me 1 kill per game that i would not get easily...your ww, you can chase better than anyone else..
smite speeds it up, usually I can outlevel mid, which is definitely nice, hitting lvl 11 asap = win.

the only way you're out leveling mid is if they are trash.. smite isnt viable.
