There are 3 other MR items that would be better choices.

only MR you needed was a Banshee's just in case to avoid a random Lux Q or Trundle pillar flank. I'd just have built even more damage because Vel has retarded range and they had no hard engage or good dive

Such as?

Banshee > Abyssal Mask > Adaptive Helm > Spirit Visage

I mean you're playing Velkoz. You shouldn't need to build a tank item against 0 gap closers.
Banshee is all you need to avoid snares from Lux/Varus.
