was doing some research, cant seem to find the answer,

with toxrill's ability of putting slime counters on each creature you don't control, the creatures get -1/-1 for each slime counter on them, are they technically not -1/-1 counters, or is there -1/-1 counter being produced from the ability?

or am i just overthinking it. im thinking in regards to cards such as blowfly infestation or nest of scarabs, if they are synergies towards Toxrill, or if they dont work

This is correct. They have slime counters. Unfortunately they are unique counters that do something similar to -1/-1 counters.

Slime counters would NOT work with Nest of Scarabs and such.
