I was playing at a local event yesterday and I was watching a match and one person was attacking with a 3/3, 2/2 , and a 3/4 trample. The other player decides to block the 3/3, and the 2/2, he does not block the 3/4 trample. The player that attack then played Vines of Vastwood after they declared not to block him to give him 4+/4+ to hit them for 7 . The other player said you cannot do that because it was a "Pump" Spell.


Im kinda new to all these rules so whos right in this situation?

Blocker is completely wrong lol.

Combat phase is as follows:

1) Beginning of Combat
2) Declare attackers
3) Declare blockers
4) Combat damage
5) End of combat

He cast Vines inbetween 3 and 4 which makes sense if he wants to smash face and win


Vines is an instant which means attacker can cast at anytime an instant can be played, the only mechanic im aware of that prevents this is split second (rare)

He was saying if you declared an attacker and other player does not declare a blocker it goes straight to combat damage giving no time to play an instant spell

Is he a new player?

Small child?

i mean what he tried doing works, ppl do that to me or i do that to ppl on arena

wrong after the blocker are set theres another phase where u can play instant
