ok, i know it says -25% to target defense
there are other items that have -% enemy defense too

my question is does this compound with each successive hit?
how long does it last for?
do multiple sources stack?
does -xx target/monster defense mess this up?

is there anything special that happens against bosses/super uniques/etc... ?

also, is this equation for change to hit correct?

To my knowledge, the to-Hit equation hasn't had any changes since 1.10. Remember the following,
  • Lower cap: 5 % , upper cap: 95 %
  • Ignore Target's Defense (ITD) sets DR = 0
  • ITD does not work against bosses or in PvP (mercenaries and players)
  • Guided Arrow, Smite, and most spells are "always hits" (they bypass the to-Hit equation)

so what i took from this information is that

-% target def works like ITD in that it does not matter if you have hit the monster (i dont know why i thought that before)
half effectiveness vs bosses

some preliminary calculations show that the single eth rune only has effects the chance to hit by 2-3% (dependant on a lot of things but this is general) against bosses (ubers more specifically)

since that isnt really effective in increasing chance to hit by much
im thinking that -xxx monster def per hit would be more effective

does that work for just that weapon, just that character, or everyone?
does it have a durration of effectiveness

basically what i'l looking at is a stonecrusher lowering the defense of an uber

Each of them are factored into DR, as part of the to-Hit equation.

Well, the Uber bosses are mlvl 110.

Monster Defense Rating and Blocking values from the DiabloWiki,
  • Lilith : 2 310 (40 %)
  • Uber Duriel : 2 520 (50 %)
  • Uber Izual : 2 520 (50 %)
  • Uber Mephisto : 3 360 (50 %)
  • Pandemonium Diablo : 2 940 (50 %)
  • Uber Baal : 3 150 (55 %)
That should make it somewhat easier to get reasonable estimates.

I doubt there's any duration. Target defense is probably reset if you leave the area or in case you die.

Weapon modifiers generally work only for the person wielding that weapon. Should be the case here.

mm hm, i was using similar/proably the same values that i got off of battle.net/diablo2exp

i recently learned in my german class that you guys write 1 000,00 instead of 1,000.00 biggrin.gif


stonecrusher for a frenzy barb ofc, pretty sure that's the only character that can gain a faster attack speed by equipping a very slow weapon
it already has -25% but i was thinking i could put an eth rune in it and make my chance to hit even better, however that only adds like 2% chance to hit
i had tried it before with 1 point mastery and it didnt really work well for me, didnt have everything i needed on him at the time, so im going to rebuild with that particular purpose in mind
already snagged an eth stormlash for a bargain

i thought typically weapon modifiers only worked for that particular weapon, things get hairy with dual wielding, not sure they took all the time necessary to write all the stuff for that when they made the game, or if they wanted to make dual wielding less powerful (seems like a joke to nerf it tho since hardly anyone ever builds frenzy barbs)
so consequently i wasnt sure if the -xxx monster def/hit worked for just the stonecrusher or for both weapons

my curiousity will get the best of me one of these days im sure of it.

anyway, and idea went through my head that i could do something like wear a 6x eth pb and soul-drainers to lower the defense down really low so i could kill them quickly, but then realized that lt would be overridden and i wouldn't be doing enough damage and i could have killed them already at that point, but it might have been a way around the massive regen
sounded like a good idea at the time, i must have been high as shit

1,000.00 ... mainly in Britain and the US.

The notation with space after digits corresponding to (10^3)^n is used in science, e.g. 299 792 458 = 299,792,458 = 2.997 924 58 * 10^8

In Denmark, we use ',' rather than '.' when denoting the fractional part of a number (0,95 as opposed to 0.95).

They are merely conventions from the past. Such tend to stay around for a while ^^


Anyway, run the numbers in the to-Hit equation and see if -Def is worth it at all.

Otherwise, back to basics. CB + OW + LT etc.

There is still blocking to consider. A major downside to most builds except a smiter.

im pretty sure that the to hit equation with -xxx monster ef is a differential equation of some sort, i could proably linearize it at some point, maybe when im bored this weekend

actually, i'de built a grief/dreamer pally who'd easied mephisto in an 8 player game in a matter of seconds
for some reason the litning damage was very effective against him and the conviction overrides so no fear, and with 4 frame attack and about 46% chance to hit considering block it was really quite easy
but i digress

the point isnt what is easiest, but rather there is no point at all really, i just wanted something to distract me from biochem eng homework
