Important Facts About Unique Items
To partially stick to the name of the item type, Blizzard decided to add a sort of "rule" about Unique items. Any Unique item in your area, whether lying on the ground, owned or equipped by another player, or in your posession, will never show up when gambling or as a reward for slaying a monster. If, for example, another player has the unique gauntlets "Frostburn," there is a zero percent (0%) chance that you will gain the item from gambling for a pair of gauntlets. It will also be impossible for it to be dropped from a monster, as long as you have the item (whether equipped, in your inventory, in the Horadric Cube, or in your stash), another player has it (same), or it is on the ground. This is not true with any other type of item that you can gamble for. Any set item, for example, in the same area that you are in or owned by you or another player can be gained from gambling.
Despite the fact that many Unique items have unique art, the specific art will not be shown until you successfully gamble for that item. An item such as the unique full plate mail "Goldskin" would not look like Goldskin until you spent the money to identify (gamble for) it.
On Unique Rings and Amulets
There are three unique rings and three unique amulets. They have an order in which you can gain them, and you must have the previous one or two rings or amulets (unless you have none of them) to gain a certain one. For example, to gain Manald Heal from gambling, you must have Nagelring. However, receiving Nagelring does not require you to have any items. The image of the rings/amulets in the trade screen does not matter, and none of the unique rings/amulets have unique art, so you will not be able to tell if the ring or amulet is unique. These are listed below, in the order of prerequisites:
Unique Rings
Nagelring
Manald Heal
Stone of Jordan
Unique Amulets
Nokozan Relic
The Eye of Etlich
The Mahim-Oak Curio
Conclusion
Gambling is a great way to gain certain items that you want, especially for Set items and Unique items, but the fact still stands that for heavy-duty items, the price you pay for the low chance of actually getting these types of items is quite high. It is a good idea to wait until Nightmare and Hell difficulty to start really serious gambling, since most of the time, the items dropped from monsters will supply you with enough gold to use. Once again, if you are looking for a specific unique or set item, make sure that you are gambling for the corresponding type and class of item; Don't gamble on Leather Boots if you are looking for "Treads of Cthon," unique Chain Boots.
Items you get from gambling are always within 5% of your charter lvl.
