1st shell takes 2 electrons
2nd shell takes 8 electrons
3rd shell takes 18 electrons xD

Na = sodium for example has 20 electrons

the formula for that is 1S2 2S2 2P6 3S2 3P6 4S2 The S is the S orbit the P is P orbit

so 1S = First shell 2S is second up to the 4th shell

the P orbit can hold 6 electrons 2 in each point and the S orbit can only hold 2 xD
