There's nothing he can do to help you, because of language barriers (as far as I can see, his english is not the best), and furthermore because he lacks knowledge of the software just as much as you do (he started yday, you started today, one day will not make him so much better than you). This is all without meaning to sound harsh to either of you, so if I do, I apologise.

Try googline GIMP tutorials, they usually help new GIMP users, from what I hear.
