I am quickly becoming a boxing fan. I had been a stong proponent of MMA taking over the pugilistic sports world as the leader in the genre, but the more I watch fighters like Andre Berto, Hatton, Calzaghe, Callazo, it really makes the sport amazing.
When I was young, it was all about Iron Mike Tyson, but he was a terrible representative for the sport and made people shy away from Boxing in general. But with this generation of up and coming and already established stars, Boxing still has a place in the sports world.
Don't get me wrong, MMA is where it's at. Nothing more intense, nothing harder on two competitors bodies, but it's not as "scientific" as Boxing.
This is my "Rage Essay" for the week.
MMA > boxing
Tyson may have been a poor representative of the sport, but he's still the biggest draw to date. He did the EXACT OPPOSITE of making people shy away from him/boxing. In fact, one of my favorite quotes from Mike is:
"I can sell out Madison Square Garden masturbating."
Which, sadly enough, is probably 100% truth.
