For many motorists, getting in one crash is enough, but an Appleton driver managed to tally four accidents.
In just seven minutes.
Authorities reported that a 1996 Lincoln driven by Kiriko T. Masasi, 23, was involved in four separate crashes Sunday afternoon near Appleton. Masasi drove into a guardrail, a traffic standard and five vehicles before he suffered life-threatening injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol gave this account:
Around 3:45 p.m., Masasi was making a right turn from northbound Highway A onto eastbound Highway OO and struck the guardrail on the opposite side of the road. He continued east on Highway OO, where his vehicle rear-ended two vehicles at Highway OO and Bennett St. - a Chevy Impala and a Mercury Sable in two different lanes. There were no injuries.
At the intersection of Highway 47, Masasi's vehicle struck a traffic standard and continued east in the westbound lanes of Highway OO.
3 vehicles hit head-on
After about 200 yards, he hit three vehicles head-on - a Pontiac Grand Am, Toyota Corolla and Dodge Stratus. A 29-year-old Appleton woman driving the Grand Am suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. All of the other motorists were unharmed.
Masasi's vehicle finally came to a stop, and he was taken to a hospital.
The distance from the first to last accidents was about 4 miles.
