Your right that was a shitty thread. Why someone would object to humanitarian aid after a natural disaster...... I just don't know.
I mean sure you could say that the country is too broke for it, with all the economic BS going on right now.... but you'd be wrong. Reguardless of how much this ends up costing the US its a drop in the bucket compared to our yearly national spending ANYWAY. On top of that, if you don't do in for charity and the humane thing to do... helping out haiti also gives alot of good PR for the US in the carribean. And since the carrib is a desperately poor place anyway right now, we need all we can. Influence is important to have in the carrib. Tourist kidnappings for ransom have steadily been on the decline because the locals will often police themselves before risking losing aid money they get every year as it is.
Then there is the fact that China has also been helping multiple carrib islands with aid ETC ontop of what the US gives them for the past few years. This gives them alot of influence, possibly leading to basing rights. They have certainly offered to send troops during internal revolt in some of the islands, and were almost allowed to do so.
So:
We should be helping haiti because its the right thing to do
Even if your an immoral black hearted bastard, its still the SMART thing to do. Anyone saying don't send aim is not just a mean/hateful person but also ignorant and criminally stupid.
I believe they need aid and anyone willing to provide that aid is more than welcome to do so imo. But, to be totally honest, I haven't lost a minute of sleep over the situation in Haiti so I can see why these nerds would be saying shit like this.
Because they dont know how to express themselves any other way and tend to exagurate everything they say just to make a point. This post was edited by Autocrat on Jan 20 2010 02:15pm
