You've got it backwards man lol. Natural selection has more to do with evolution than genetic mutations. Genetic mutations are EXTREMELY rare. How it works is animals naturally mate with the strongest and best possible match. For example in humans scent is connected with immune system. We are naturally attracted to mates with immune systems that compliment our own. In natural selection the species better suited for the environment survive and those that aren't die. The genes that are from those that are well suited are there for passed on and the species as a whole slowly grows better suited for the environment.
How is that in any way random? Sure, genetic mutations OCCASIONALLY take place...but it's extremely rare and often is a negative thing meaning they die anyways.
