I was being completely serious. All this stuff about the Swine Flu is mass hysteria.
I don't think it's
all mass hysteria. Half mass hysteria, half really huge (potential) problem. I mean, it's at a Phase 5 pandemic - the WHO doesn't really raise their phases needlessly to cause panic...they're actually pretty conservative about it.
I think a looooooooooooot of people are overreacting, though. Like my doctor wanted me to come in to get tested for it a few days ago because I had a lot of the symptoms (I had been in contact with people from two counties where there are confirmed cases nearby), but I didn't have ALL (or even the really crucial) symptoms. It happens to be the peak of flu season here, so of course I'm going to have flu-like symptoms...duh. I feel okay-ish now after a few days, so obviously it isn't H1N1, but I could of course catch it. I also had West Nile when that was a big deal and nothing happened.
Meh...as far as pandemics go, this strain of flu isn't
really deadly - 10% of people die (so far) from it...15% of people that catch SARS will die and 60% of anyone who catches the bird flu, so really the odds are fine. Plus it's one of those flus that targets the very old and very young (or already ill) so a lot of people will be all right - nothing like the Spanish flu that was killing mostly those in their prime - now THAT is a problem. Deadlier than "normal" flu strains, less deadly than most pandemics. It's something to be very cautious of and to prepare for, but nothing to flip out about.
...wow...WALL OF TEXT. Sorry, I'm sure nobody cares of my ramblings, lol.
