I'll explain.

This is my current setup :

AMD 6000+ X2
M2N32SLI Dlx
9800GT
3Gb ram (667..)
250 Gb 7200RPM

My pc is pretty good for gaming, but when i want to do my homework ( My homework consist in Delphi / Php / Photoshop .. Programs...)
My computer is a bit slow for that..

I have a budget of 1k $ and i want to upgrade.

I was thinking about I7 + 12Gb DDR3 + Getting better hard drive, but i still don't know wich yet...

Ofc i'll have to switch mother board.

My last post:

SSD is still dropping in price... memory is getting cheaper and cheaper
no moving parts so suppose "not to break"as often as a HHD

A 10K like Velociraptor is nice. Still limited in size... it's a 2.5" surrounded by heatsink in a 3.5" body.

Another way to get speed is with stripping RAID or RAID 0.

==================================

Now if you want to upgrade:
I would go for : 2x 7200 HDD.. you can never get enough disk space...
or even 10K HDD...

You can also setup RAMDRIVE ( 1990 technology -->> how SSD is born )

DDR3 = 3 slot of rams.

3-6-12... :)

Err.... no. The 3 has nothing to do with amount of slots.

Actually DDR3 ram run by 3...

So it's a multiple of 3 instead of a multiple of 2.

Go ahead and look on any computer parts website, you'll see that we can buy DDR3 Ram @ 12 Gb.

Edit : 6x 2 Gb of ram = 12.

Yes, you can buy it in sets of three. My point is only there's nothing about DDR3 that says things are in multiples of 3. It's just an arbitrary number of slots.

Ofc the memory alone isn't.

But in set yes.

About 5-7 years ago AMDs were superior. Since then, they're been greatly surpassed, though.
