SPOILERS
I've just finished the book, it was great. I could sympathize with William a lot, I'm from a family similar to his, my parents live in village and I am the first who is attending a university in the capital. I could understand how he became more distant from them and and how he was different. To be honest I was annoyed by his relationship with Edith. They met and married very soon which was I guess normal at that time but I didn't really understand why William didn't even try to talk to Edith about the problems in the family. Yeah, he tried once or twice but wasn't really assertive and let it go. Maybe he thought that Edith was so foolish there was no point? I'm not sure. The arc about Charles was very good but then came his affair which I found kind of meh and somehow the book got a little weaker from that point but all in all I still liked it.
