Hello. My first name is Lenny. Due to a traumatic childhood I live under constant fear of other people and survive off of anonymity entirely, especially the internet. It has been getting worse lately and I would like to seek the advice and opinions of others here. I have no friends or relatives I love with the exception of my mother, who is gradually growing concerned over my state of mind.
Regardless of weather conditions, when traveling outside, I always wear the same clothing, which consists of a fedora, ski mask, sunglasses, long coat, fingerless gloves, and boots. I do not speak, and communicate only through an electronic notebook when necessary such as ordering when ordering meals. Up until yesterday, no one has minded or troubled me. However, one man came up to me and asked me why I was so strange in a sarcastic manner, laughing while doing so. I tried my best to dodge him, but he insisted by saying I should "drop the act" as not everyone is out to get me. In my desperation, I yelled out in public that the man was attempting rape, which caused him to immediately leave the scene with his hands over his face.
It was then I realized that this may be the single most effective way to deter people from bothering you when traveling outside. I only just did it out of desperation, but now I am curious if it should be used in the future as constant self-defense in the event something like this happens again.
On a side note: I did do the right thing didn't I? Nothing happened afterwards because he left soon, although many people on the sidewalk were looking at me and the man strangely.
