Meh, MS will try to set the standard, then Google or someone in the Linux foundation will come out with a supposedly 'open' format, blathering on about open-source and how it's so wonderful, and system admins will have to install two sets of drivers for the next few years until one of them has a technological leap and becomes 10x faster and compresses the data to 1/10th the size, and eventually becomes the standard....but by then it'll be such a bastardised version of the original, and although described as open-source only the company that took it and ran with it will be able to actually do anything with it, and Apple will license it and make shiny white-gloss versions with a new menu system, and bought-out pundits will all declare Apple's 3rd coming and how it's amazing no-one else thought of it when they have been for years...and I will take a breath.
