with 3k starting gold, hobtl is one of the lamest items in 1v1

get that and some armor (ring of the teacher) and he won't be able to combo you

get plated greaves for good measure

ok so if its 1v1 u get 3k gold

starting items id get would be:

marchers (500)
glow stone (1200)
ring of the teacher (500)
courier / flying courier (400)

that leaves you with 400, last hit a wave and you have a bottle quick, ferry bottle and make deadwood's life hell as much as you can before 6

upgrade boots to steam boots
upgrade glowstone to either sotm or frostwolf
get barbed armor some time later on

its mid lane only he can only come from the front really...
and dw punch has like 0.5 sec cast time
