four years ago i couldn't handle metal and thought "how the fuck can anybody listen to this screaming ass shit", and now i know it as some of the best music i've ever listened to, yet in those 4 years my personality change wouldn't indicate going from hilary duff to parkway drive
whenever people find out i listen mostly to pretty heavy shit they're like "wow i never would have guessed"
so if that statement works the other way around i dunno about that

i know kids who listen to whatever everybody else listens to (lil wayne, kanye, etc, etc - not saying anything wrong with these artists), and actually listen to dubstep and shit on their own time (music that i see as shit you listen to in more social settings), and claim to never get chills from any of the music they listen to, which leads me to believe it's not their genre of music and they haven't found something they might enjoy more

i mean i know a guy who looks like jesus, massive metalhead, pro at guitar, effortless A+ in his comp sci and math courses, internship offered to him by IBM without him even thinking about them, etc
yet i know a guy who is practically the same, but loves rap, loves to freestyle (i freestyle battled this kid in first year quite a lot when we drank)

tbh i don't think you can say it speaks about anybody's personality OR about someone's intelligence, though there was research somewhere about kids whose favorite artists being pop artists had lowest average SAT scores and kids whose favorite music was classical music had the highest SAT scores
