yeah for christmas my grandma said I could get a computer of my choice up to 3K~ and I didn't know how to build one (never done it before) I was scared I would break something or not be able to install the OS and configure the bios settings for all the parts I would have bought seperately from newegg
she plays games like Asheron's Call and Zork/Myst etc.. so she has an alienware also

i don't rly have room for a desktop, would rather just have a laptop for portability + gaming at same time

Laptops nowdays are almost equivalent to desktops.
I wouldn't buy another desktop when i can have a portable one at good cost in my hands wherever and on my bed.

And to answer your question, god yes.
In every way possible.

It's better then the Alienware you listed in my eyes.

If you're buying a laptop to bring over to a friends house, you might even consider just getting a micro atx desktop with dual processor (there's some with cool carrying chassies)
if it's a laptop for school then um gl finding one under 500$ that can run todays games on max settings and not overheat ><
laptops are spendy spendy to run games in max settings and be light/portable
although I don't know much about anything

Which is also fairly good.

Not as good as the ASUS brand wise and the one i listed but it really isn't too bad.
It's probably the BEST laptop under $900 right now.

If only the resolution was 1920 x 1080, it's unfortunately 1366 x 768.
But will only make the graphics look more "Crisp" on FPS style games.
For HoN and such i'd think would be fine, has great speakers too.
