PoE came about as close as possible to the old D2. There was quite a bit more skill involved and the only real way to MF decently was with a party. Also, pretty much everyone played hardcore so botting was way more dangerous and difficult that in D2.
Still, from the day the game came out there were item shops and trading forums everywhere. Just like in D2, for the first few weeks of a season rare items/currency (like HRs) are really valuable, but give the botters some time and soon everything becomes worthless.
It's really impossible to stop botting in any game. There'll always be some dumb area you can MF safely without needing a very advanced algorithm (e.g. I remember Ectasy gave me a D3 bot that MFed that stupid like rare rat guy). Even if the area you MF doesn't drop as good loot as frequently as other tougher areas, if you're doing it 24/7 on like 100 different characters you're going to get rich. I don't think developers cba to really monitor everyone's accounts for bots and ban them, especially since lots of games like PoE are f2p now and the devs really don't want to waste any more money and resources than they have to. Also, people can code way better now and it's easy to randomize mouse movements, fake taking breaks, etc.
Long story short I think nothing will ever be like oldschool D2 was again. Going into any game hoping for a modern day D2 is just asking for dissapointment
lol I gave that to you?
I made 60k fg off of that bot
