Don't get why everyone hates HoN. I used to play it hardcore, but can't now. Mainly due to access of internet limitations.
But I will play HoN until either I die, or HoN dies.
I love the game, but I'm not picky and bitchy like most of you. I'm sick and tired of this section bitching and moaning about every little tweak someone does on the game.
Are you S2 games? No, you're just some rand behind a keyboard saying "AMG EA HERO OP." You were the same person who said "AMG FAYDE NEEDS FIXED" throughout 30 patches of tweaking her from stun melee/mana burn range to stances to melee mana burn range stun. Etc. (Besides the point, just a rant.)
All you people do is drag everyone else down with your negativity. It is that EXACT negativity which will eventually bring a community to its knees.
My point and case: HoN.
YOU have ruined the game. Not S2. Not the release of DotA 2 or LoL's success. But YOU. The people.
This game was in it's prime. Then everyone discovered throwing games is fun and makes you shit and giggle for 5 minutes. Big fucking deal.
Play the game to play it. Not to fuck with other's free and enjoyable time. This is when HoN, S2, and it's community, began taking a downfall.
With that said. Fuck this section. You all whine about everything. You are those kind of people that can never be made happy.
Quit your bitching. Play whatever game you choose. AoS > all those Mobas anyways.
The community sucks, and is part of the reason the game is bad. But it's still S2's fault for not combating that effectively. You think the people playing Dota2 are just naturally better people at heart? No, but Valve has taken many carefully planned steps to give people incentives to behave better in-game.
1. Want to flame team chat / all chat? Fine. We have 1000s of hired people looking at reports who will take away your chat privileges if you do this. You can still play games ,and can still communicate via pings (only a certain amount per minute so no spamming) or a chat wheel with like 8 basic commands. Playing the game like this is really really frustrating since you can't say anything, so it gives people the incentive to not flame so they can keep their chat.
2. Want to grief / throw? That's cool. We'll just place you in low priority bracket. You can still play, but it'll only be with other griefers / throwers. This is almost worse than being banned. Notice, however, that Valve will NEVER take your right to play the game away like S2. This makes people less inclined to be bitter towards Valve and develop a bad attitude in-game.
3. Want to subtly throw by doing stupid shit that's not reportable? That's fine, nothing's stopping you. Except the fact that no stats are public so you don't really know whose a smurf and whose not. You also don't really know if you're lowering your own MMR or not because the formula is a secret. Oh, and the fact that people won't rage at you most of the time anyway since they have developed better attitudes or just don't want to be muted. So, basically you'll be losing on purpose while getting no attention and while accomplishing nothing. Oh, by the way you can't concede, so enjoy being camped at fountain for 40 minutes by the enemy team.
4. Want to make smurfs? Fine. Stats aren't available in-game, so nobody gives a fuck if you're 90% with 6.0 KD. Also, enjoy playing in the low brackets which are just pointless and nowhere near as fun as the higher brackets. Oh, and if you go 40-0 every game the MMR system automatically upgrades you to a decent bracket so you can't just play against pure retards all day. Also, the effort you have to put into making a smurf (new steam account, verify email, set up Dota hotkeys, play through tutorial, etc.) just isn't worth it. Finally, if you queue as a say 1500 MMR account with a 1800 MMR account, you won't get placed into 1600 bracket. You'll be in like 1750 bracket because Valve's formula is more sophisticated and doesn't encourage smurfing.
Overall, the same dicks that played HoN play Dota2. But they're prevented or discouraged from being massive dicks due to Valve's careful planning of the community system. Valve thinks of these things while S2 almost openly encourages griefing. So whose to blame really? You won't change human nature, but you can definitely change the way you deal with it.
