I

I haven't noticed much difference between the two, NVIDIA control panel seems to give you all the same options of ATI.

ATI gives better framerates.

Very nice man, I'll be looking to build something like this when I do my PhD. Probably would do a triple monitor setup with a DAS keyboard and a solid Logitech mouse. For now will have to stick to my laptop though. It's pretty convenient overall, nice to have the power of a desktop that you can transport around if you need. Still, if I wasn't moving around alot and had the space for a setup like that I'd definitely go for it.

Tbh, I think laptops place is being replaced by tablets & smartphones. Only thing a laptop is useful for is when you travel long distances and want some entertainment other than apps.

Few things just off the top of my head: Careful with Asrock, known issue with their boards being particularly thin and fragile (not the best thing in a mobo). Why such a disc drive? Do you even use your disc drive any more? (just wondering)
If you're a competitive gamer (anything that needs a stable connection) I wouldn't recommend going with a wireless adaptor... even the higher end ones have issues coming even close to the dependability of wired. Wireless adaptors for desktop are practical for the casual web surfer, not really for bandwidth eating gaming.
Not trying to sound harsh in any way, pretty decent picks imo actually... Just a few things to consider about your selections.
