Their problem is that Valve are about to release the biggest title in the genre, which will likely combine both the S2 and Riot approaches. I am pretty convinced after over 50 games in the beta, that once DOTA2 goes release, the player population of Europe and US in HoN is going to plummet and the competitive scene with it. S2 had their headstart and through the wrong marketing decisions didn't capitalize.

played 2 games this morning

1 game as spectre i have 45 cks or so at 6 minutes total freefarm

get ganked 3 times

no wards
no miss call
no nothing

i buy 4 wards and make sure i'm safe and farm some more>moronic bane comes to my lane and push it and every time we are going to pick somene off he uses sleep instead of just ulti = giving their sandking + tiny who have EARLY daggers both 8 seconds to rape our entire team
final score was like 2-5-23

second game i randomed CM and i did big supportive player, dominated lane, went to roam with 3 other in our team and i placed offensive wards and said to them just jerk off in their woods and find pick offs, and they did and it was freewin

dota2 solo pub kind of sux. you'll often get a few baddies on your team making it kind of hard to play a ricer than needs good support

i win almost every game with mirana tho since has a good escape + can get early kills on noobs + has awesome carry potential

also i can't wait till they port dusa, that hero is just awesome for emo ricing
