played dota 2 last night with my 1400 mmr friends

ugh, no courier or wards (for either team), no one got a bottle for runes (either team), game lasted extra long since there's no concede vote, people didn't buy true sight till the invis hero got a 10+ kill streak

moving the camera feels strange, it's not as crisp as hon, all my hot keys were changed when i updated it, i seriously hope that doesn't happen in retail

dire has such an advantage on killing roshan, i have no idea why they haven't done anything to fix that, rosh goes down so fast in dota 2

going to take so long getting used to that game, i think i might not bother with it and play something else

yes dota2 has its issues. its really not that great for a casual player atm. not so good if you're just looking to pubstomp and fuck around either.

but in essence its a better game. there's no denying that. its not a fucking joke like HoN. you don't have stupid alt avatars like MISTER CHIPPER or fucking captain america bubbles. the heroes are so much more detailed, grahpics so much better, hero abilities so much more unique and balanced, hero pool overall so much better for competitive or normal play (no extra bullshit heroes released every 2 weeks), game technicalities much better (no 2 limit on buyback, 4 minute respawn timer instead) etc. etc.

if Dota2 has a TMM system like HoN with mmr rankings and concrete stats showing and a lobby, i wouldn't think twice about completely ignoring HON and going to dota2. but for now it doesnt and just isnt good for solo pubbing / casual play, so i'll stick to hon

have you played kinesis? he's pretty unique. i haven't seen any proof dota is much more balanced, i think people are less likely to criticize icefrog since they grew up with him, people have reason to lash out against s2

also if you've ever been to the balance section on the dota forums you'd think the game was broken


comp play uses tournament mode, heroes are released every ~6 weeks, isn't that close to icefrog's releases? though he releases like 4 every 6 months or w/e

EA doesn't effect normal play as much as you think, you can also play banning modes if you don't like EA


i can agree with that, the 2 buyback limit is so inelegant, and can punish you if you buy back mid game

even if you disagree with rest of the points and say HoN is slightly better / same as dota2, then you have to take into account that there are so many true profesional players playing dota2, and that the prize pools for tournaments are $5M USD instead of 20k gold coins

but 20k gold coins is real nice

yeah i wonder how hon's shitty comp scene will effect the game, so far the game is still perfectly playable at a casual level

oh and i forgot to add, you don't think dota2 will have hats? the only ways to make this game sustainable are ads, expansions or micro transactions, based on tf2's success i'm guessing they use the latter
