"Harden Carapace (W)
Arachna hardens her carapace for a short duration, increasing her resistance to magical attacks."

I'm having serious problems understanding what these do man.

which ones can you just skim and see what they do faster?

Ahh best to start with no stats pick a hero read a guide and go play that hero. Wash n repeat untill you have played all heros 2 times pick the one you like the most and then try pubs again.

except when you go over a skill you're bombarde with a wall of text at least on the toons I played. I played some girl with a scythe and myrmidon guy. Not to mention LoL highlights in a bright color (green for AP and orange for AD) the damage, and both of those "ministories" tell you exactly what it does. She conjurs up a storm, it goes in a trail, and bounces up anyone it hits. Mundo throws his axe, and if it hits something he regains life.

Both heros i Played I felt like i had to read for days to see what the skill did and the damage/effects it had

this is not the game you can just jump in and go...you will need to read guides and figure out what gear you will be using, and how best to make use of your skills before you even join a game so that you have some sort of a plan in this way your time can be maximized and you wont fall behind the rest of your team because your trying to read and figure out what a certain skill actually does when you should be stunning someone
