it's true though, so many people do something either for the sake of it or for the money

like the subletter who lived here has her english degree and is working retail as an assistant manager at a clothing store for $14/hr, and during those 3 months she was here i was working full time for $20/hr
and when i asked her why she decided to get a degree in english the way she answered it leads me to believe that she was one of those people who go to university because everybody else does

or like that youtuber jennamarbles who has a masters degree in sports psychology and always talks about how she cries over it and got it so that she could hang it up and stare at it

yet half of these people still find jobs, so many accountants in the office i was working at reminded me of the business and arts kids i see here around campus
one of them showed up with a pure black eye cuz he got hammered and fought a dude at a bar like sup son nice professionalism

or the other extreme like what most asians do
i remember i read an article about some kid who got a medical degree and then handed it to his mom at graduation and then peaced out to do what he actually wanted to do cuz his asian parents were so nazi and closed-minded that they couldn't see anything in their son but doctor or some other equally-respected white collar position

if you don't really really want to do a job, you won't put 100% of your potential into it, and you'll never become good enough to make mad bucks + you won't really be happy

atm i enjoy college but i know i don't want to do my degree for the rest of my life directly. after i'm done with all degrees i'm going to go play poker. just because i think i'd be alot more dedicated to improving and making good money at that than anywhere else

for example today i lost 2 huge hands for a whole buy-in to some donkey playing horrible cards where i had 4:1 or 3:1 odds to win and got sucked out on. 1 year ago i would have raged, lost the rest of my money, then afk crY'd about it. today i just said "hm" and continued playing solid game, managed to lose alot less giving me +EV overall.

point is i feel like i'm improving alot at the game not because i'm taking courses in it but just because i enjoy it and am willing to dedicate myself to it. people who can't do that for their profession of choice are just wasting their time + lives imo

my room mate's uncle used to work for EA
he was actually the lead developer for one of the MLB games before they lost the rights to it
and after he did that for a while he said fuck it, went to a school for culinary arts, now he's a chef at a restaurant somewhere and loves it over making video games and wouldn't trade it for anything

but yeah, there's no point in making money if you aren't happy, and he's never been happier in his entire career path
