Both of these approaches would be met if new players could fight as a team vs 5 bots - let's call them Bot-MM games for lack of a better word. Free accounts would automatically get matched up against bots until they got a good ammount of games played (20?).

How would that help?
Killing only bots would not give the smurfs any satisfaction, especially because they could be killing real players on their real account instead. At the same time, they would have the opportunity to enter those Bot-MM games as "mentors" with their real account (with a maximum of 1 mentor player per game). At any point during the game, the mentor could start a 1-time vote where everyone could decide if he is doing a good mentoring job or not. If 3/4 people agree, the mentoring player gets XX silver coins added to his account.

What an awesome idea!
All of this would deter players from bashing new players and instead give them an incentive to help them out and teach them instead. New players would not be kicked into an abusive environment, but rather into a cooperative one, with experienced players to help them learn the ropes.

The bots needed for this do not have to be perfect. I have seen AI bots even in Dota 1 that did a great job, so it should be easy enough for S2 to code.
