Dota2 and LoL are simply better because the companies running them are better. They funnel millions into the competitive scene, and they have a huge team of people working on the game to constantly refine it and make it better. S2 games just isn't as dedicated to HoN as the other companies are to their games. HoN gameplay was great and fast-paced, but S2 really ruined the game over the last 2 years with dumb patches which just tried to squeeze every last penny out of customers while ignoring the actual quality of the game. Sucks because HoN beta was one of the best games I've ever played. Dota2 is like HoN when it was good, but even better than that. Once you get used to the heroes and gameplay there's no comparison. You have to give it a few hundred games though to truly understand.

i wish i could.

i might buy a PC for the summer just to game. do dota2 and LoL have f2p options though? i enjoy not paying for HoN

what do i care about competitive scene (as a casual player, other than spectating games)? people who are good at certain games will indeed play if they can make money even tho they might not really like that specific game but does that make the game better simply because more money is put into it?
if you don't like the game or dont have ppl to queue with what incentive do i have to play so many games, even 50 or 100? a casual player averages what 1-2 games a day?

hon now is more targeted towards casual gamers because they are the most likely to invest some cash into buying coins for avatars, announcers and w/e else they can get from shop. the only bad thing about hon imo is the community and sure there are heroes who people call op but thats because they are bad and cannot counter them proper. so in the end why is it wrong to make the game more enjoyable for the big chunk of casual gamers?(they basically made it easier with all the changes from last 2 years) is it not better to please the general public rather than the very few people who play higher brackets? and to continue more on that let's say that dota2 would be the same as hon (default starting courier, no secret shop, etc) would u stop playing it? saying u play in higher bracket where people do buy courier and wards why do u feel disadvantaged then? if u feel like it make a small list of things you do not like in hon and i will elaborate on what you say

Here's my breakdown:

HON
Best gameplay
More even balance between carries and non carries
Very little definition between roles.
Worst UI, skin system and generally worst 'out of game' experience
Worst company behind it. Insanely tight budget and little access to devs
Struggling to expand it's player base. Big patches tend to draw an influx of players but it's rarely maintained. Playerbase has been fairly stagnant for the last year.

LoL
Totally different gameplay to the other two. Very arcadey in just about every way (not in a bad way, it's just the game's deliberate style)
Somewhere between HON and DOTA2's out of game experience
Highly dependant on play-time to unlock heros, skills, runes etc.
Better company but still fairly limited in terms of funding and access to talented devs
Growth - Not sure tbh, I suspect it's somewhere WAY ahead of hon, but still behind Dota2.

Dota2
Gameplay is dated and clunky (designed to mirror the good AND bad aspects of Dota1) they could improve it, but not sure they want to as they really want to keep true to Dota 1, for better or worse (most would agree it's for better)
Huge devide between carries and supports. Highly defined team roles.
Absolutely amazing skins, items and trading system
Generally by far the best 'out of game' experience
Huge funding, backing and access to talented devs.
Growth - growing strong and fast.

Blizzard All Stars
Hopefully it will take the best aspects of each game adn blow them all away. While we don't know that it will, Blizzard has about 15 billion dollars more behind it than the other three companies combined and 20 years worth of heros and story to throw into this one game.
Absolutely monsterous financial backing, access to just about all the talent in the world they could ever need. Owners of some of the best franchises to use heros and story from - only company with the ability to monetize the game with something like an RMAH.
But I had similarly high hopes for D3 and they were by no means met in full.
