Can someone explain this item to me?

I never played dota so...

I'm not 100% sure on item selection based on hero selection sometimes. Or counters to other heroes

But this item I just don't really get.

Why get it?
When to get it?
What heroes to get it on?

why get it? it's awesome
when to get it? when they got a invis and you're to lazy to buy wards
when to get it? when you wanna push some towers
when to get it? to counterward
when to get it? if you can micro more than 1 unit
when to get it? if they got a really mana depended hero like electrician, -275 mana will rape his shield
what heroes to get it on? anyone who can afford it

I've seen a lot of players get it when there's no invis.

For example someone god it because there was alot of str heroes.

Was looking for a little more indepth explanation

edit: srsly tho bro, just think about its uses
jump into practice and spawn a rank 3 puzzlebox
look at damage of each, attack speed, look at the orbs, their abilities, etc
it's a fucking boss item

when you need dps, 3 mobs can now dps, u and 2 spawns
if u get stunned, you still have 2 dpsers, for example warbeast, 5 dpsers, alot more dmg than just a shrunken wb with 2 wolves, uknow what i mean BRO!!!!?

not to mention it's kickass vs stuffs like plague ultimate, valks arrow ( since they'll might eat it instead of you )
and lots of other stuffs it's gut for

overall a kickass item if you can micro it decently

insane dps, beast at pushing, counter invis and wards, scouting, insanne manaburn, great ms aura, farming and a lot of fun (send the low hp mob to low hp enemys boooyah) xd
overall a fukk yeah pro item if you can micro

Its terrible for plagues ult but great for swiftblades

that's only true if you're the only target for plague's ult

what he meant would be the situation that you're standing beside a teammate and plague drops his ult
either you both get raped by it, or pop puzzlebox and hope that the puzzlebox minions take maximum damage from it

better to just walk opposite directions... popping a pbox will only keep it closer to you for longer

Unless you had absolutely nowere to go like kongs cave or something
