Until further notice, using the asynchronous/automated trade tabs is HIGHLY discouraged.
It is extremely easy to fall victims to scams through a relatively automated process.

When trading:
  • Turn off asynchronous trading temporarily before posting the item that you plan on trading.
  • Disable friends list joining (in case you have the scammer added from previous trades/playing)
  • Only invite the person you are planning to trade with.
  • If you are in a game with more than one person, do not trade anyone without confirming with the d2jsp user what character they are.
  • Make sure the "trash item" is the EXACT item you are expecting. If it's a different name or different stats, something is wrong. Stop the trade and contact the d2jsp user to straighten things out.

You can find a full explanation of how this scam takes places below, as well as a brief explanation of the logic of how we will handle these cases:
Quote (Textbook @ Scammer Accusations Forum)
We've been able to determine that these scams are apart of an automated system of detecting these types of trades and pursuing them in an attempt to scam people RMTing. It works as follows:
1. The scammers setup live alerts for a range of stats to find junk items which are listed for well over their value, for example 80 divines.
2. When an item is listed, they get an alert and then buy a cheap item of the same base, and enter the hideout by searching asynchronous trades listed under your account name.
3. While they're in the hideout, they send a trade request to the first person who joins and they put up the item. This item does not match the one offered on the market, nor does the username match, nor should any trading need to be involved (You buy the item from the vendor npc).
4. The person trading the divines, without realizing these things, trades the divines for the incorrect item to the third party scammer.
5. The scammer then leaves, and the trader leaves, thinking the trade is complete.

The responsibility of these situations falls upon the person who traded the divines to the wrong account. It is their responsibility to trade the divines to the correct person, via the correct method, and there are numerous signs during this scam process that should cause pause and realization that something isn't right.
