Hello all my name is Craig and I have a few questions/debate almost.

Some people that I talk to say that the new testament "overwrites" the old testament.
What are your thoughts on that?
Reasons I ask and have the question about this is if the new testament overwrites the old does that mean the ten commandments do not stand then? (which makes no sense to me if so)
I also read some scriptures people point out to me about in the new testament how it states that we are not bound by the old, some of those scriptures are :
Romans 6:14
Romans 7:4
Galatians 5:18
2 Corinthians 3:14
Colossians 2:14
Hebrews 8:13
Hebrews 10:9

Now some of those that I read almost (to me at least) sound like they somewhat contradict what it is saying.
I am by far not the greatest Christian in this world. I am trying to learn/go down a better path so I can teach my two children that I have.
I appreciate the talk/answers. I hope everyone continues to have a blessed day.

Matthew 5:17-18 (NASB)

17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

2 Timothy 3:14-17

New International Version (NIV)

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

real life overwrites both the old and the new testaments

if you open your eyes, you will see God and Jesus around you, working. you will also see the devil.

In the Old Testament, the world lived by law, but when Jesus came and died for our sins, He fulfilled the law so we no longer were bound by the law, but rather we could live by grace through Christ Jesus. Not saying we can just forget about the law, but Jesus fulfilled the law so we no longer are BOUND by it. For example, when the Pharisees (a group of religious folk) brought an adulteress lady to Jesus and proposed to Him that she must be stoned to death, because that what was supposed to be done when we were bound by the law. Jesus agreed, but He stated, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." Nobody could throw the first stone because they all have sinned. They left and Jesus spared the adulteress lady's life. Jesus forgave her, but told her to go and sin no more. Now Jesus didn't break the law because the law still stands, but rather He fulfilled it. So yes, things are a little bit different now than it was back then.
