My sister who is 27 just recently got a divorce. There are plenty of verses in the new testament that speak out against this. I tried to get her to go to her church and get counseling but she did not listen to me. How do I tell her nicely that the Bible does not support divorces? According to http://www.openbible.info/topics/divorce there are plenty of verses to support it.

...tell her nothing . Give her your support as her brother without judging her situation . Praying for her is probably the best idea of all and she doesn't need to know you are doing so .

I always thought what it said in John 7:24 meant it was okay to give a righteous kind of judgment towards a situation. I mean what it says in the Bible we should follow? I thought the Bible was the book of God?

The Bible is a book of guildelines to help you be a better person. Taking anything in that book (written like 3000 years ago) literal or acting upon it seems silly to me. Its words are meant to inspire and to achieve better and be a better person. You shouldnt judge your sister in the slightest however, because shes family. I literally only have a Brother, a Mother, and my brother's beautiful twin daughters who are quite literally my only reason to live. That's why i say dont judge family, because they are the greatest thing God has ever given you, whther you believe it or not. Just let her do her thing. What your essentially asking her to do is remain married to someone she doesnt love. That seems like a cruel thing to do, i dont think God wants her to be cruel to someone. Just sayin. So yes, the Bible says dont get divorced, but it also says love everyone and treat them nicely, but if she isnt able to love him anymore and be nice to him, then they shouldnt be married bro.

The Bible also says

Matt. 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."

Wrong, divorce is destroying marriage more than homosexuality. God's idea of marriage is representative of Christ's relationship with the church. If you think it's okay to get a divorce because you're going through a tough time with someone then you haven't looked at the Bible. Yes, God is loving and forgiving, but He also has a standard of living, which is clearly expressed. Christ is adamant in his teaching that the only occasion to get a divorce is if one member of the union commits adultery (Matthew 5:31-32), and even then he encourages the other to forgive them. Anything short of that is direct disobedience to God and a sacrilege of marriage. By saying that divorce is wrong you aren't judging someone any more than you would be if you said murder was wrong. Sin is sin, and it's all the same in God's eyes. That said, if the deed is already done then there isn't anything to do about it but pray for her, and have faith that she can repent.

As brothers and sisters in Christ, we cannot let divorce become something that's okay in the church. It's one of the biggest issues in Christianity today in my opinion.

We have to count the cost before we make a lifelong commitment to someone.
