How do I go about finding the right Church for me and joining?

I went to a Church of the Nazarene when I was a kid up until probably age 16. I enjoyed it as much as any kid my age would enjoy church. But going back to that specific church is out of the question.

I've decided I want to start living a better life, God has helped me through a lot of struggles of mine and has set me on a great path. I now have a steady career, a loving girlfriend, moved out on my own, paying my own bills etc. My girlfriend was brought up in non-denominational church growing up with her dad, (she doesn't have a mom in the picture.) I am guessing that is the best path to go in. On my father's side of the family they are all catholic however I was never brought up catholic nor ever attended a catholic church.

I want to start living a better life, I want to eventually start a family and bring my child or children up in church. I don't consider myself a bad person by any means, but I am a sinner. I lie, I curse, I take the lords name in vein. I don't want to do this anymore, nor do I want to bring a child into this world with that kind of behavior.

I guess I am just asking for a little guidance or opinions on what I should do. I am not sure how one goes about finding a church and joining the fellowship. Any help is much appreciated and I thank you for your time reading this.

...pray for specific guidance in finding the church that God wants for you and do the legwork . Visit as many different Christian churches in your area as you can and trust God to let you know when you are home .

I Understand your situation.

Finding the right church is hard. I personally have not found the right church.
What I recocomend is what WidowMaker suggested, visit different churches, but just don't go to one church session of that church
go to 2-3 , and visit different churches, because when you are home, you will feel it.

Because not every church is meant for everyone

Hey send me a pm anytime Bill! But I can shed this little light on the situation. I struggled for many many years with church. I had always grown up as a Christian and going to church, but when I got a little bit older, I could not find a church that fit me for whatever reason and I stepped away from Church. I began reading my bible, scriptures, talking about the word of God with others and started a reading group on Facebook that is growing everyday. God has recently called me back to the Church and I found the perfect one for me. There is no way to know what church is going to fit you. I believe you can get close to God in many other ways without going to church at first, eventually when you are completely ready to surrender to God, His grace and strength will guide you into the right direction.

Look for a church that sticks to God's Word. (Avoid anything "new age")

It took a few churches for us to visit before we found the right one for us lol. I wish you could just be a little mouse and snoop them out without having try them yourself. There's a lot of great ones out there and a lot that aren't. I'd pray about it and search your area.
