It depends what you're praying for. God doesn't give us what we want, but rather what we need. Often when it seems like my prayers aren't being answered I take a look at what exactly I'm expecting from God.
A big part of waiting and trusting in God when it comes to prayer has to do with surrendering your will to allow His into your heart. A prayer that I repeat throughout the day is "Thy will be done".
At the end of the day your prayer life is something that you develop and personalize through practice. Try to switch it up if it feels stale. I used to write down a few key prayers I would say throughout the day to discipline myself, and over time they have evolved and changed.
"God help me to be patient", "God allow me to know You better", "God help me to forget everything I think I know about You, myself, and what's good for me". <-- that one I used to say because I learned that by having expectations of how I would like my prayers to be answered, or even that I'd consciously recognize that they were, I was assuming that I understood God and the way He works.
If you have faith in God and trust that He loves you, you will come to believe that your prayers are always heard, and always answered.
