So, a while back I told my mom that church isn't for me, and I don't really believe in it any of it anymore.

While I tried to talk to people, and go to church to see if I could get into it, nothing.

ANYWAY, my moms whole argument against me, is "You believe in things you read in history books" and that it's based on faith.
I guess I can kinda see where she's coming from, but this is supernatural. As I tried to tell her, she's just being stubborn and telling me that I can't live life an atheist. I think she's over exaggerating. Idk, for what reasons do you guys believe in God?

Also, I would normally not care, but she's been going through a lot of trouble with things, with depression too. So I don't really wanna just not try and fix it, because I know she's sad about it. But at the same time, I don't want to lie and pretend I believe in it.

When you base your beliefs on your parents', you are bound to deviate from that. I would claim that it is a failure on your parents' behalf, your pastor's behalf, and your own behalf. Your own authentic walk has not been developed, which is a huge responsibility of your parents and pastors. You've been piggy-backing on your parents and not taking the initiative to naturally and holistically question what you believe and why.

Try seeking someone you respect (let's be real, we don't respect our mothers in a similar sense that we would respect an older, mature, male mentor.) to walk with you... not in front of you. A mentor is hugely important for wading through the difficulties of faith. Simply walking away through ignorance will never quench the inevitable curiosities you will face.

e: A foundational principle of my faith is in God, the Creator. Comparing Creation versus the Big Bang Theory is huge for me. I believe in Science wholeheartedly - and because of this belief, the Big Bang Theory on it's own does not make sense. Something didn't come from nothing. Something came from something that has always been and will always be. People often will respond asking where God came from. God lies outside of the realm of these physical laws because he doesn't have a single point of origin like the Big Bang Theory - he is eternal, always been and will always be.
